Jack Chapman is Co-founder and CEO of Cardinal Gray, a startup helping auto lenders automate DMV title work during loan origination.
Jack and his co-founders started off hoping to originate car loans on a blockchain. They quickly realized this was probably not legal, and even if it were, it would’ve been impossible to handle the title work. During a hard pivot, the team started interviewing lienholders across the country. These conversations quickly revealed that DMV forms for lien filings were the most significant bottleneck to direct auto originations. It turned out AI made it possible to compress this days-long process down to a few minutes.
In 2026, Cardinal Gray is on track to process 500k loans across all 50 states for some of the largest direct lenders in the country, including OneMain Financial and Capital One.
