Robert Smith is Managing Director in Stifel’s Fixed Income Capital Markets Division. A veteran of the Financial Services Industry, Rob has more than 40 years of capital markets experience with roles in trading, asset management and banking/advisory. He has contributed several notable innovations to the development of securitization and the ABS/RMBS markets, including arranging the first credit union securitization in 2019. Rob has held leadership positions at several major institutions, including Senior Managing Director and Head of Structured Transactions at Bear Stearns & Co, Inc., President of Bear Stearns Advisors International, Inc., Principal at Morgan Stanley, President of Morgan Stanley Mortgage Investor Services, Head of Structured Finance at Oppenheimer & Co., Inc., Principal at Mariner Investment Group, President and Chief Investment Officer of NIBC Credit Management, Inc., founder and CEO of RangeMark Financial Services, Inc, and Executive Vice President at AMBAC. Among his many assignments, Rob was advisor to the US Treasury Department on the structure and management of the Troubled Asset Relief Program. He began his career as a financial economist with the Chase Manhattan Bank. He earned a Master’s degree from the University of Virginia and Bachelor’s degree from the University of New Hampshire.
